Interview: Manquillo on Wearside switch

Javier Manquillo is relishing playing in front of Sunderland’s red and white army after sealing his Wearside switch.

The 22-year-old has joined from Spanish giants Atlético Madrid and comes to the Stadium of Light with a wealth of experience despite his youthful age.

Manquillo spent the 2014-15 Premier League campaign at Liverpool and made 10 league appearances before a move to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille saw him feature 31 times last term.

But now the Spaniard has returned to England and linked up with David Moyes to become Sunderland's sixth summer signing along with Papy Djilobodji, Donald Love, Paddy McNair, Adnan Januzaj and Steven Pienaar.

Speaking exclusively to safc.com Manquillo lavished praise on the club and revealed he is keen to give everything to the cause.

“I am very happy to come back to the Premier League,” he said.

“I’m really pleased to sign for Sunderland because they have tried really hard to get me here and since the very first minute they have been really welcoming.

"I am very happy to be here and I can assure every single Sunderland fan that I will be giving my best at every training day and match. I want to give everything inside of me for this club.

“Since the very first minute I arrived at the club I have met some great people and they are looking forward to big things,” he continued.

“This club is very big and I cannot expect any better in terms of staff, stadium facilities and supporters, they are great, so I think the club is going to have a great future.

“Everything I have seen since I came is a club that is looking forward to doing very good things.”
