Sunderland Ladies sealed their place in the FA Women’s National League Cup semi-final with a big second half show against Derby County.
Jessica Brown opened the scoring in the 51st minute. Keira Ramshaw made it two shortly after before Maria Farrugia got a third and then Ramshaw rounded off the result with a last minute goal.
Grace McCatty and Katie Barker dropped out of the starting XI, with Erika Warren and Georgia Gibson taking their place.
The second half ended without any really incident. Claudia Moan saved Derby’s only shot on target, turning a header over the bar.
The game sparked into life in the second half, and Brown continued her run of cup goalscoring, volleying in at the back post after a pinpoint cross from Georgia Gibson.
Farrugia hit the post in the 69th minute after Leah Kellogg made a great save to stop a potential own goal.
Ramshaw doubled the lead with 16 minutes left. She threw herself at a rebound from Bridget Galloway’s header and beat a defender to the final touch.
Farrugia kept the goals coming, poking the ball home after a goalmouth scramble. Barker did brilliantly on the right, holding off a challenge and playing the low cross in.
Charlotte Potts almost got a fourth, her shot cannoned down off the crossbar before being cleared with three minutes to play.
Ramshaw tied up the game in the 90th minute, tucking the ball into the bottom corner after a great run and pass from Potts.
Stoke City, Milton Keynes Dons and the winners of Portsmouth and Southampton tie are Sunderland potential opponents in the semi-final, with silverware now two wins away.
