Reaction: Reay delighted to progress in FA Cup

Melanie Reay was full of praise for her team after today’s Women’s FA Cup win against Watford.

Goals from Jessica Brown and Keira Ramshaw saw Sunderland Ladies progress into the fifth round of the competition at The Energy Check Sports Ground this afternoon.

Speaking post-match, the Lasses' boss talked up the mentality of her players to show the quality they did throughout the tie.

“I thought we were outstanding, from the goalkeeper all the way through to Bridget," she said.

“Everyone carried out their jobs very well against an organised Watford team.

“It was a nice game to win given their league position and I think it sets out a real marker for how we’re performing."

"It’s a competition we want to keep progressing in but the reward of a big tie would also be good.”

Sunderland are in cup action once again next week as they host Derby County in the FA Women’s National League Cup last eight.

“We treat it as any other game, so we’ll prepare well during the week and we’ll go out on Sunday hoping to get another win to continue our winning streak.

“We’ve been quite open in saying our focus is the league, but we want to win any match we play and now we’re at the quarter-final we want to keep pushing and get as far as we can.”

You can watch the Women’s FA Cup fifth round draw live on the BBC News channel from 6.40pm tomorrow.
