Wallsend went top of the North East Regional Women’s Football League Premier on Sunday, with a 2-0 win against Redcar Town.
Libby Corney played the full 90 once again, with another Ellen Turnbull double giving Wallsend their second win in two. They sit one goal ahead of Farsley Celtic at the early stage of the NERWFL Premier.
Hannah Skull will have to wait for her Hartlepool United debut after only returning to availability this week. Her side lost 3-2 on the road to second placed Farsley Celtic in her absence, with Robyn Foster getting a double for Pools.
The South Shields trio of Eve Blakey, Grace Boyes, and Rebecca Ward will also have to wait for their league campaign to kick-off. Their game away at Ryton & Crawcrook Albion Tyndale was called off shortly before kick-off, with the hosts unable to pull a team together.
Wallsend play host to York City in the NERWFL next Sunday, while Hartlepool travel to Yorkshire Amateur and South Shields travel to Blyth Town in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Women’s Cup.
