Sunderland Ladies will finally turn out at home, ending a two-month spell on the road in the FA Women’s National League, as they take on Loughborough Foxes at The Energy Check Sports Ground.
The game is the start of a partnership with Hebburn Town, which will see SAFC Ladies split their time at home between The Energy Check Sports Ground and Eppleton CW.
Life on the road has been good for Melanie Reay’s side, with only two points dropped so far this season.
Currently one win from one at home, a 9-1 win against Hull City at the Academy of Light back in September, Sunderland will be looking to make the most of their fleeting home visit before another two away ties before Christmas.
Maria Farrugia will miss the Foxes clash, as she prepares for Malta’s EURO 2021 Qualifier with Italy on Tuesday. The 18-year-old netted Malta’s first goal of qualification in a 1-1 draw with Israel on Thursday.
Allison Cowling and Emily Hutchinson are the only other absentees, giving Reay a big squad to play with as the Black Cats could look to manage some tired legs from the long run of games.
While Sunderland are flying, Loughborough have endured a tough start after switching from South to North in the FAWNL Premier Division.
The Foxes sit 10th, winning two and losing six of their games so far. Loughborough can be a threat going forward when possible though, with their 10 goals coming in two games, a 7-3 win at Hull on opening day and a 3-2 win against Sheffield.
Welcome Sunderland home this Sunday, with kick-off set for 2pm at The Energy Check Sports Ground, Hebburn (NE31 1UN). Admission is set at £3 for adults, £1 for concessions and £1.50 for SAFC Season Card holders.
If you can’t make it to Hebburn, we will have live updates on our Twitter @SAFCLadies.
