Sunderland Ladies 6-0 Norton & Stockton Ancients
Sunderland Ladies made it two wins from two in pre-season with a big victory against Norton & Stockton Ancients this afternoon.
Bridget Galloway took her pre-season tally to six goals in two games as she netted another hat-trick, with her first coming at the midway point in the first period before two in eight second-half minutes put the Lasses in full control.
Katie Barker had opened the scoring in the 14th minute, with Charlotte Potts grabbing Sunderland’s fifth in the 67th. Scoring was rounded out as a trialist netted seven minutes from time.
Manager Melanie Reay made several changes as Thursday’s goalscorers Keira Ramshaw and Georgia Gibson were both unavailable. New signing Neve Herron took a spot on the bench only hours after her signing was announced.
Barker opened the scoring with 14 minutes on the clock, tucking home a cut back from Galloway after some good work from Jess Brown on the right.
Sunderland started to dominate possession after a fairly even start. Galloway and Abi Cottam each had an effort saved either side of the 20-minute mark.
Shortly after, Galloway intercepted a Norton goal-kick before playing a one-two with Cottam and finding the top corner for her first of the afternoon.
Charlotte Potts had two attempts in the 29th and 34th minute. Her first was a powerfully struck effort, but it was straight at the ‘keeper who pushed the ball to safety. She then tried her luck from a free-kick on the edge of the area, but dragged her attempted low strike wide.
The second half saw both sides start slowly, but the hosts picked up the pace as they made it three in the 56th minute. Brown played a corner into the danger zone at the back post where Galloway applied the finishing touch.
And seven minutes later, Galloway secured her second hat-trick in as many games. Barker did brilliantly to beat several defenders on the right before her cross was finished by the inform striker.
Galloway would play a part in her side’s fifth goal in the 67th minute. Potts nicely finished a cross from Galloway at the back post to get her first goal back in red & white.
With seven minutes to play, one of the team’s three trialists got themselves on the scoresheet. The young striker produced a tidy finish to find the bottom corner after a good run through the middle by Potts.
The Lasses’ next match is on Sunday at Women’s Championship side Durham.
