Sunderland AFC Ladies are delighted to announce the signing of Abi Cottam.
The striker has made the move to Wearside after spending two years in the FA Women’s Championship with Durham.
Cottam scored six goals in 35 games for the Lady Black Cats’ neighbours and has experience in this league too with West Bromwich Albion.
There, she struck 10 times in 21 league outings as she helped the Baggies to success in the 2015-16 FA Women’s National League Northern Premier. In total during her two-year spell at the Black Country club, she netted an emphatic 40 goals in 58 appearances.
The 28-year-old also had spells with The New Saints, Aston Villa and Icelandic side IBV.
Speaking about her arrival, Cottam said: “I’m really excited to have joined Sunderland, they have a great history and the set up is fantastic. I can’t wait for the season to start and hopefully we can push for the top spot in the league this year.”
Manager Melanie Reay added: “Abi has an abundance of pace and can play anywhere in the front line. She has settled in well to our environment and we are all looking forward to seeing her over the course of the season.”
