Sunderland Ladies 10-1 Bradford City Women
Sunderland made the perfect start to 2019, scoring 10 against a struggling Bradford City side at The Hetton Centre.
The deadlock was broken after only five minutes, as Grace McCatty slid in to beat Bradford 'keeper Aimee Routledge to the ball and find the net. That would be McCatty's first goal for the club, but not her last of the day.
The Black Cats would double their lead two minutes later. Emily Hutchinson turned home the rebound after Routledge saved from Bridget Galloway.
Amelia Kemp, Keira Ramshaw and Galloway would all go close as Sunderland looked for a third.
The third was added in the 28th minute. Hutchinson was tripped as she broke into the penalty area. Galloway stepped up to take the penalty, slotting into the bottom left corner.
Eight minutes later McCatty got her second and Sunderland's fourth, volleying in a free kick at the near post.
Georgia Gibson fired a dipping effort narrowly over the bar on the verge of half time, but couldn't add to the lead before the break.
Within two minutes of the restart, Galloway got her second of the afternoon, calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner after going through one-on-one with Routledge.
Skipper Ramshaw would get involved in the 50th minute, powering a free kick into the bottom left corner from around 20 yards out to make it 6-0 to the hosts.
Sunderland would have a seventh three minutes later. Katie Barker teed up Mollie Lambert after some great work on the left. Lambert lifted the ball over the 'keeper and into the net from Barker's cut back.
Ramshaw doubled her tally in the 55th minute. Some good play between Louise Griffiths and Galloway on the right lead to the latter cutting the ball back for Ramshaw to finish.
Lambert scored the pick of the bunch to round off the flurry of goals. The midfielders long range, dipping, curling effort dropped perfectly into the top corner for her second and Sunderland's ninth.
Ramshaw completed her hat-trick and sent her side into double figures in the 72nd minute after Hutchinson played her in.
Bradford would pull one back with 12 minutes remaining. Falone Sumali finished slotted the ball home after Sunderland gave the ball away at the back.
Sunderland moves back up to second with the win, moving ahead of Huddersfield on goal difference and with a game in hand.
