Match report: Ladies forced to settle for point on Teesside

Middlesbrough Women 3-3 Sunderland Ladies

It was another frustrating night for Sunderland Ladies, who could only draw with local rivals Middlesbrough having held a two goal lead.

Bridget Galloway opened the scoring six minutes in but Holly Manders equalised in the ninth. Galloway got her second in the 17th minute before Niamh McLaughlin added a third shortly after. But Emma Kelly's 33rd-minute strike and Manders second-half equaliser saw the Lady Black Cats only bring home a point.

Galloway got Sunderland off to a flyer, sliding in at the back post to finish from Katie Barker's cross after six minutes.

The lead was short lived however, with Manders effort from the edge of the area beating Allison Cowling.

Sunderland would retake to lead with 17-minutes played, Galloway again scoring from a cross, this time finishing Anna Young's low ball in at the front post.

McLaughlin gave Sunderland a two-goal cushion on her full debut five minutes later, with her close range shot on the turn finding the net after Mollie Lambert's header from a corner fell to her.

Just after the half-hour mark, Kelly leveled things up. The ball fell to the former Black Cat around 25 yards out. She took a touch to set herself before firing off the underside of the bar and in.

Eight minutes after the restart, Manders got her second to tie the game once again. Cowling couldn't turn a cross away and it fell kindly for Manders to turn in.

The hosts had the best of the chances from there, Grace McCatty was needed to make a vital challenge as Tyler Dodds lined up a shot at close range with 20 minutes to play.

More points dropped from a winning position on the road by Sunderland, who return to Hetton this Sunday to face Hull City.
