Match preview: Chorley Women v Sunderland Ladies

It’s a second week of cup action for Sunderland Ladies, who travel to Chorley in the FA Women’s National League Cup this Sunday.

The Black Cats overcame Wear-Tees rivals Middlesbrough in an enthralling 4-3 win at Hebburn Town, setting up an FA Cup third round tie at Fylde in January.

Chorley provide Sunderland’s third lower tier challenge of the FA WNL Cup campaign, with the Black Cats seeing off Newcastle United and Barnsley so far in the competition.

With Neve Herron and Jessica Brown away on England under-17’s duty, dual-signed duo Eve Blakey and Grace Boyes travel with the squad for the first time. Grace McCatty will also be available after missing last Sunday’s FA Cup match.

Chorley have endured a tough start to their FA WNL Division One North season, sitting second bottom with only four points from seven games. Goals seem to have been the issue, scoring only seven while conceding the third fewest goals.

However, there has been no such worries in the League Cup, scoring 14 in two games in the competition. A 10-2 win against Leafield Athletic and a 4-3 win against Durham Cestria set up the Second Round tie with Sunderland.

Bethany Donoghue is The Magpies top scorer this season, netting 15 goals in 15 games in all competitions so far.

Kick-off is set for 2pm at Victory Park Stadium (PR7 3DU) on Sunday. If you can’t make the trip to Chorley, follow the game live at our Twitter @SAFCLadies.
