Eve Blakey was on the scoresheet once again as South Shields made it past Spennymoor Town in the Durham County FA Women's County Cup.
The Mariners waited two days shy of a month for a fixture, but performed strongly in the first half of the game at Crook.
Both Sunderland loanees Blakey and Grace Boyes would be involved in the opening goal after half an hour. Boyes played Blakey in on the left, crossing for Becki McMahon to finish first time.
Blakey would double the lead soon after, regaining possession from her own rebound before beating several defenders and finding the bottom corner.
Shields would see the game out with their two goal lead in tact, setting up a first round tie with Chester-le-Street Town’s development side this Sunday.
Blakey also joined up with England Colleges for a training camp this week, following her selection for the Colleges National Team back in November, scoring two on debut as her side ran out 2-1 winners against Independent Schools FA.
Hannah Skull’s Hartlepool United will travel to Bishop Auckland on Sunday, also in Durham County Cup action. Libby Corney will have to wait until the New Year before she is next in action with Wallsend B.C. Ladies.
