Match preview: Lasses set for penultimate friendly

The Ladies head into the penultimate game of pre-season tonight as they welcome Lee University Flames to the Academy of Light.

Sunderland head into the game on the back of a 12-0 win over Hartlepool United, which kicked-off a busy seven days for Melanie Reay’s side which also sees them take on Sheffield United on Sunday.

Bridget Galloway has been in redhot form throughout pre-season, and her four goal haul last Sunday took her tally to 10 goals in three games.

Sunderland will, however, be without captain Keira Ramshaw and midfielder Mollie Lambert, providing Reay with a chance to try other options in the midfield with the season only 10 days away.

Grace Boyes, Rebecca Ward and Eve Blakey will also be available tonight, with the trio in line to make a first appearance since the end of their trial period. Libby Corney won’t be available as see team’s up with Wallsend this evening. 

Tonight’s opponents, Lee University of Tennessee, are currently taking in a UK tour as they prepare themselves for the upcoming NCAA Division II season.

The Flames made the National Semi-Finals in the NCAA Division II last term after a fourth place finish in the South Conference, losing out to Grand Valley State Lakers. However, the side lost last years top scorer Mia Hollingsworth. The senior scored 14 goals last term.

However, Head Coach Chris Hennessey will have new options with five players in their freshman year coming into the squad for 2019, as well as holding onto second second top scorer from last season, Kelsey Yoder, remains with the as she enters her junior year.
