Kasia Lipka has admitted now isn’t the time for excuses as her team-mates must target a response after losing at Everton.
On a wintery afternoon at the Select Security Stadium, the Toffees proved too sticky for the Black Cats as the hosts romped to victory.
Courtney Sweetman-Kirk and Danielle Turner both bagged doubles after Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah had given Everton the lead on 36 minutes.
Bridget Galloway pulled one back in stoppage time at the end of the match, but it did little to mask over a disappointing afternoon for the Ladies.
“We did well against Liverpool midweek with a diamond midfield so stuck to the same game plan hoping it was going to work and we didn’t want to do anything different,” Lipka said.
“We managed to get some good passes off and find and few players but mainly stick to what we are good at, but with that similar game plan it just didn’t come off today.
“My role was to sit in midfield and break things up and shield the defence from their number nine or ten.
“It was frustrating to concede two sloppy goals at the end of the first half and it was just frustrating because we just weren’t good enough today,” she continued.
“The surface had nothing to do with it, we aren’t looking for excuses. It’s a big pitch and we could have used it better. The weather was the same for both teams, we just weren’t good enough.”
