Hayley Sharp has hailed two-goal hero Beth Mead as Sunderland Ladies recorded an emphatic FA Women’s Super League victory over Doncaster Rovers Belles last weekend.
Mead got the Lady Black Cats on their way with a close range finish in the 34th minute before Sharp powered home Lucy Staniforth’s corner with a fine header to double their advantage.
With time all but up in the first-half, Sharp then turned provider as her floated pass picked out Mead and the prolific striker did the rest and she lashed the ball home from the edge of the area.
Brooke Chaplen then added a fourth in the second 45 to seal the win and speaking to safc.com Sharp talked up the striker’s prowess and called for the Lasses to now build on their fine efforts.
“We have to stick together, play as a team and continue to enjoy what we do,” she said. “We played with confidence against Doncaster, we worked hard and we thoroughly deserved the result.
“Beth is unbelievable and she can score from anywhere. She is only young and I think having her on form is an excellent benefit to the team. She works so hard, she puts goals away and she is a phenomenal striker.”
She continued: “This is the start of our season now, we have got to kick on from here. We need to take it one game at a time but we will definitely take great confidence down to Birmingham now.”
