Ed Sheeran: Getting to the SoL this weekend

The Stadium of Light is proud and excited to be returning to concert season this Friday and Saturday (June 3-4), as Ed Sheeran visits Sunderland as part of his Mathematics Tour.

Supported by Maisie Peters and DYLAN, Sheeran will perform on consecutive days on Wearside during the Platinum Jubilee weekend, and below is all you need to know on travelling to and accessing the Stadium of Light for the event.

How to get to and from the concert

The Stadium of Light (SoL) is easily accessible by road and public transport. The venue is served by two Tyne & Wear Metro stations and there is ample parking in the city centre, just a short walk from the Stadium.

By road

If travelling from NORTH or WEST of the SoL: From the A19 follow signs for A1231 Sunderland, then yellow signs for Park & Walk, for which the postcode is SR5 3XG.

If travelling from SOUTH of the SoL: From the A19 follow signs for A1018 Sunderland, then yellow signs for Park & Walk and use city centre car parks. To view parking options in the city, click here.

By Metro

Concert-goers with purple, red or yellow entry tickets should alight at Stadium of Light Metro station.

Concert-goers with blue, orange, platinum, green or pink (accessible) entry tickets should alight at St. Peter’s Metro station.

Additional Metro services will run on concert days, with Park & Ride options at East Boldon, Fellgate and Heworth Metro stations – all a direct link for services to the SoL.

By taxi

Pre-concert drop-off in Wearmouth Street and Monk Street. Post-concert pick-ups will be in the city centre only.

Parking

There is no public parking at the Stadium of Light for this event, with parking extremely limited in the immediate surrounding of the venue. Residential streets in the vicinity of the SoL are also subject to parking permit restrictions. Parking enforcement officials will be in operation.

Roads immediately surrounding the SoL will be closed on concert days to all traffic, with no drop-off or pick-up available outside the venue – pick-up and drop-off points are specified above to assist with the smooth management of crowds.

The aforementioned Park & Walk scheme will be based around Sunderland Enterprise Park, SR5 3XG.
