Preview: FC Köln v Fortuna Düsseldorf

FC Köln are back in action on Sunday when they host Fortuna Düsseldorf at the RheinEnergieSTADION.

The Billy Goats were held 2-2 with Mainz 05 last weekend, after the Bundesliga returned following a two month break due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Goals from Mark Uth and Florian Kainz put Köln in the driving seat, but second-half strikes from Taiwo Awoniyi and Piere Kunde earned the visitors a share of the spoils.

This weekend, Markus Gisdol’s side will be looking to bounce back against Düsseldorf and increase their gap over the bottom three to 13 points.

Team news

FC Köln are without attacking midfielder Marcel Risse due to injury, but there are no concerns elsewhere.

Jhon Cordoba is once again expected to lead the line alongside Uth, with the pair in fine goal scoring form.

The latter has been a revelation since his switch from Schalke 04 in January, having grabbed five goals and four assists.

Opposition

Düsseldorf are currently in the relegation play-off place in 16th, five points ahead of Werder Bremen and six ahead of Paderborn who prop up the table.

The visitors come into the clash on the back of three draws, most recently against Paderborn in a relegation six-pointer.

Captain Oliver Fink may be in line to return to the squad after missing out last week due to quarantine regulations.

Elsewhere, boss Uwe Rösler is expected to make changes ahead of a hectic schedule, with Kaan Ayhan (suspended) and Zach Steffen (injured) both unavailable.
