'We're in a good place' : Elliot Embleton on pre-season

Elliot Embleton believes the running programme set-up by physical performance coach Nick Allamby will hugely benefit the squad during the upcoming season.

The 21-year-old endured an injury hit 2019-20 campaign, but is now back to full fitness after following the club’s rehabilitation programme during lockdown.

And as the Lads head into the third week of pre-season, Embleton believes the squad looks as strong as ever.

“He (Allamby) has been very demanding of us and he’s set a good running programme out,” Embleton said.

“The running and training have been at a very high intensity, but everyone has been doing well and we’re looking strong.

“It’s clear to see we’re all putting the work in and we’re in a good place going into the new season.”

The midfielder suffered an injury setback in January, after initially picking up a hamstring problem against Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup in September.

And while the premature end to the season was not what anyone at the club wanted, Embleton used the extended break to get back to full fitness.

“It was obviously a shame about the way the season ended, but it gave me another few months to build the strength in my leg back up,” he continued.

“I had some gym equipment at home, so I was doing my best with that while following a programme I had in place.

“I was doing plenty of running to make sure I was fully fit for when we returned to pre-season.

“For me this season it’s about getting as many minutes as I can to help the team win matches.”
