Spice Girls: Safety message for concert-goers

Almost 50,000 music fans will descend on Sunderland’s Stadium of Light later this week as the Spice Girls take to the Wearside stage as part of their Spice World tour.

Concert-goers are reminded to plan their journey to and from the stadium carefully and arrive well in advance of the show as entry points will be extremely busy. Naturally with an event of this size, there will be queues and fans should aim to get to the stadium as early as possible. Fans are advised to ensure that they are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions and wear footwear suitable for an outdoor event with prolonged standing.

There will be no overnight queuing permitted at the stadium. Fans will be able to queue from 8am on Thursday morning should they wish to do so.

External stadium courtyard areas will open at 2pm on the day, with the main stadium gates open from 5pm. Support act Jess Glynne is due on stage at approximately 7.15pm, with the main act due on at approximately 8.30pm. Concert-goers are reminded however, that show times may be subject to change on the day.

Fans are reminded that their concert ticket is a e-ticket, which they will have received by email from their ticket agent. A hard copy of this ticket must be printed off and brought to the concert in order to gain entry. The e-ticket must be kept in good condition and must not get wet or smudged or it will not be able to be read by the stadium’s entry system.

Entry points around the stadium are clearly signposted and colour-coded, corresponding to individual tickets. Fans should carefully read the details on their e-ticket and access the stadium via their designated entry point.

In the interest of the safety of all attendees, a restricted bag policy will be in operation at the stadium. Bags must be no larger than A4 size - height 297mm (11.7 inches), width 210mm (8.27 inches), depth 210mm (8.27 inches. Rucksacks are not permitted to be brought into the venue, nor are umbrellas. Concert attendees are also advised that bags will be searched on entry.

Anyone who needs to bring medical equipment that necessitates a larger bag should email spicegirls@safc,com, in advance of show day.

Items of food or drink cannot be brought into the venue. Catering outlets are available, both within the external courtyards and the stadium concourses and a wide range of food and beverage options are on offer. Those attending the show are also reminded that the ‘Challenge 25’ protocol will be in place and anyone wishing to purchase alcohol, who appears to be under the age of 25, will be asked to provide proof of age.

Young people aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult aged over 18 in order to enter the venue. Unaccompanied youngsters aged 14 or under will not be permitted entry. Under 14s are also not permitted on the pitch.

Stewards and event staff will be on duty both inside and outside the venue. Anyone requiring assistance or information should approach a member of the event staff, who will be happy to assist.
