The 2019-20 campaign is shimmering on the horizon, and the red and white army are ready for battle with season card sales surpassing 23,300.
Jack Ross’ side took their preparations up a notch earlier this week, defeating South Shields in their first pre-season outing, and just four weeks separate them from an opening-day showdown with Oxford United.
12 months ago, 21,682 season cards had been sold, leading to a grand total in excess of 24,000 by the conclusion of the 2018-19 campaign, including 18, 12 and eight-game iterations, as multiple League One attendance records were shattered.
And with an additional 1,318 already snapped up, it looks like the best is yet to come, with last season’s grand total set to be surpassed before a ball is kicked.
SAFC’s executive director, Charlie Methven, said: “Those of us working at the club owe a huge thank you to our passionate fan base for their continued commitment.
“For all of us, the weeks that followed our Wembley disappointment were tough, which makes it all the more laudable that our supporters have so swiftly dusted themselves down and readied themselves to once again be our club’s bedrock for the new campaign.
“The fact that there has been a significant and notable increase in season card sales is both a tribute to the steadfastness of SAFC supporters, but also, I think, a result of the many small improvements that were made to the matchday experience over the course of last season.
“From the award-winning Big Seat Change to the red and white army’s fine work in bringing the Roker End to life, as well as the work conducted behind the scenes alongside the Beacon of Light to improve the fan zone, together, we have enabled a more holistic matchday experience.
“But, as our supporters have demonstrated through their continued backing, the hard work must continue, as we march forward as one.”
Sunderland will kick off their 2019-20 campaign at home to Oxford United on Saturday 3 August, and season cards remain on sale with great prices available for supporters of all ages.
