Foundation of Light: Beacon hosting Blackpool Fan Zone

The Lads’ clash against Blackpool this Saturday is set to be a family-friendly affair with a host of free activities, for all ages, taking place in the SAFC Fan Zone at the Beacon of Light before kick off.

The Sky Bet League One match against the Tangerines has been dedicated to the club’s official charity, Foundation of Light, to support its ‘Give A Quid’ fundraising campaign to tackle social isolation as well as the life-changing work it does across Sunderland, South Tyneside and Durham communities.

The matchday fundraising will feature bucket collections, matchday lottery and hospitality fundraising, and there will be a half-time display of some of the Foundation’s award-winning projects including football displays by veterans, a disability group for children and a families who have taken part in a learning programme.

The Beacon of Light, located on Stadium Park, is the home of the Foundation, housing world-class sports, education and community facilities, and open to all seven days a week.

Hosted by SAFC podcast, Wise Men Say, the SAFC FanZone opens at 12:30pm with activities including football coaching and games; inflatables; and music alongside appearances from club legend Marco Gabbiadini, SAFC mascots Samson and Delilah, and members of the first team.

Speaking about the day, Foundation of Light Commercial Director Phil King said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming fans to the Beacon of Light in our second SAFC Winter FanZone. We’ll be putting on activities ahead of every match until March, but this one is extra special as we showcase our award-winning work and host some free family fun.

“With a range of locally produced food and drink as well as free activities for all the family, the Beacon of Light is the perfect pre-match preparation for any fan.

“We have nearly reached the £10,000 mark of our £30,000 target for Give a Quid for Social Isolation. All money raised will go towards projects that provide a balance between physical and social activity and help everyone have a chance of enjoying a happier and healthier 2020.”
