The duo have their names in Wearside folklore after steering the Black Cats to their highest Premier League finish - seventh - in two successive seasons, as well as winning the Division One title on two occassions.
The pair are also responsible for introducing the footballing world to the prolific partnership of Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn.
We got their signatures on the Farewell to Roker Park shirt from 1997 and the Championship-winning shirt from 1999.
