Gift of Football: Ross and staff sign up

Jack Ross and Sunderland AFC staff have donated tickets to Foundation of Light to help ensure nobody on Wearside misses out this Christmas.

The fan-led initiative has continued to pick up momentum throughout the week, as supporters streamed into the ticket office to generously give the Gift of Football.

On Wednesday, Stewart Donald, Charlie Methven and Juan Sartori signed up and each donated 50 tickets to the heart-warming cause, with the first-team also showing their support, and they were quickly joined by the Sunderland manager and non-playing staff at the club’s training ground.

Ross has continuously praised the red and white army’s outstanding support since his summer arrival, but despite seeing the passion and sacrifice first-hand on a weekly basis, he was blown away by initiative.

The Sunderland boss said: “The fact over 1,000 tickets have been donated as part of a fan-led initiative takes your breath away.

“It is not only a testament to the individuals who have selflessly donated, but to the club and the city because this is a special gesture and it isn’t something you see every day.

“I hope we have given our supporters plenty to cheer about so far this season, but not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to come to the Stadium of Light on a regular basis.

“This initiative will ensure nobody misses out this Christmas, and as the manager of this club, I couldn’t be prouder of our supporters and our staff.”
