Report: 2017-18 home kit gets first run out

Dawdon Welfare Park 7-1 Hall Farm Glasshus

Sunderland delivered a world footballing first yesterday when they unveiled their new 2017-18 adidas home kit with a game between two local teams.

Streamed live on Facebook, the thin stripped home kit was modelled by Dawdon Welfare Park who produced a fine display to ease past Hall Farm Glasshus 7-1 at the Black Cat’s former home, Ashbrooke Cricket club.

Robbie Bird flew off with the match ball after his four-goal tally, with Kyle Middleton, Tom Price and Jordan Thompson also chalking up goals.

Hall Farm Glasshus did initially, however, level the game early in the second period through Sean Archbold who clinically stabbing home from close range.

Unfortunately for Hall Farm it counted for little in the end, as Dawdon Welfare Park ran away with it in the end to see Sunderland’s new shirt get off to a winning start.

And that’s exactly what the whole day was centred around.

After weeks of anticipation the club revealed what their players will be donning during the 2017-18 Sky Bet Championship season.

A distinctively thinner stripe, the shirt sees the club go back to its roots and that seemingly fitted with the iconic setting of their last home before they moved north of the River Wear, Ashbrooke Cricket Club.

With the match streamed live on Facebook, over 50,000 people tuned in to watch the big kit reveal – a world first as full coverage of a match between two local sides then took place.

Everyone at Sunderland AFC would like to thank both Dawdon Welfare Park and Hall Farm Glasshus for supporting the club with the kit launch. Also, a huge thank you to Nyron Nosworthy, Nick Barnes and Simon Crabtree for their efforts across the day.
