Fixtures revealed: Friday night opener at home to Rams

Sunderland will open the 2017-18 season at home to Derby County on Friday 4 August at the Stadium of Light.

The 7.45pm kick-off will see the Black Cats usher in the new season on Wearside for the first time since 2010, with a trip to Norwich City on Saturday 12 August marking the Lads’ opening away game.

A trip to Sheffield Wednesday follows before a return to the Stadium of Light on Saturday 19 August, as Leeds United come to town.

Sunderland will also take on Barnsley before the end of August before facing the Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Hull City in September.

On 4 November the Black Cats will travel to Middlesbrough for a Tees-Wear battle, with the reverse fixture taking place on 24 February.

The festive period has served up a trip to Bramall Lane on Boxing Day before the final fixture of 2017 takes place at Nottingham Forest.

And the Stadium of Light will play host to the first fixture of 2018 as Barnsley travel to Wearside, with the Lads also ending the season on home soil against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday 6 May.
