Stopper shortlisted: Pickford up for PFA Award

Jordan Pickford's heroics for Sunderland between the sticks have been recognised by the PFA and he has been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year.

The young stopper is one of six nominees alongside Tottenham duo Deli Alli and Harry Kane, Everton's Romelu Lukaku, Manchester City's Leroy Sane and Burnley's Michael Keane.

The PFA Awards celebrates the best of English football in an awards evening attended by hundreds of current professional stars of the game in London later this month.

As the season draws towards its climax, the PFA Awards is a celebration of the achievement of all PFA members from the last 12 months.

PFA Chief Executive, Gordon Taylor OBE: “The PFA Awards is always a special occasion and one of the biggest nights in football’s social calendar.

“For the winners who are honoured at the awards, there can be no greater personal accolade than that of being recognised by your peers; an honour to be cherished.”

Pickford has made 24 appearances across all competitions for the Black Cats. He has also received a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England side and he is also expected to have a key role in the under-21’s European Championship this summer.
