Prize winner has a Ball

Lifelong Sunderland supporter was given a special Black Cat experience at the weekend as he was announced as the club’s first #TopCat winner.

Stephen Hanley from Nottingham was awarded the club’s inaugural #TopCat winner after his son, Rory, nominated him for his dedication and support to his beloved Black Cats.

Since 1999, Stephen has travelled up and down the country, home and away, to see Sunderland with his two sons and wife, and to express his gratitude for the many years his father has dedicated to the club, Rory nominated him for the award.

Stephen was presented his award at the club’s Fan Zone as he was surprised by Sunderland AFC legend, Kevin Ball, who expressed his admiration for the #TopCat winner and his undying support for the club.

After being presented with his award and tickets for the Leicester City match, a shocked Stephen said: “It’s awesome, I’m absolutely stunned, I didn’t expect any of this, even just to meet Bally is a wonderful experience for me, thank you very much.”

To top off his #TopCat experience, Stephen and his family also got to watch Sunderland’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City with Bally at the Stadium of Light.

#TopCat is a brand new monthly prize draw, where fans can nominate themselves or another fan, who they feel deserves special recognition.

As #TopCat they will win a table for four in one of the Stadium of Light’s award-winning hospitality suites for a Premier League fixture, including a special Black Cats experience.
