Central League: Under-21s travel to Huddersfield

Sunderland Under-21s return to Central League action on Wednesday with a trip to Huddersfield Town (1pm).

The Central League was formed in 1911 and in its early years consisted of a mix of senior teams and reserve teams.

It gives development sides across the country the opportunity to compete in extra fixtures.

Alongside Premier League 2 and the Premier League Cup, the U21s gain the experience of playing between 30-40 games in the campaign.

The Black Cats played in the competition last week with a 4-3 victory over Lincoln City. A double from Tommy Watson and goals from Ben Middlemas and Jaydon Jones sealed the contest.

Graeme Murty's side will get minutes in the tank ahead of the league clash against Wolves next week with a mixture of U21 and first team players set to be involved against the Terriers.
