Report: U21s grab three points in the Premier League Cup

Sunderland Under-21s left it late once again with a stoppage-time winner in the Premier League Cup against Peterborough.

Ellis Taylor's second-half free-kick and Henry Fieldson's late header guaranteed three points on the board in Group E.

The Black Cats started the brighter of the two sides and nearly had the opener a few moments into the game. Conor Pye got to the byline before cutting the ball back for Hemir, whose effort went just wide of the mark.

Pemi Aderoju went closest for the visitors a third into the game with a low effort on the edge of the area straight into the arms of Richardson.

Michael Spellman looked to break the deadlock in the opening stages of the second half with an effort on the edge of the area but his strike flew just past the post.

On the hour mark, the Lads had their goal. Jones was brought down around 25 yards out and Taylor did the rest. A beautifully curled free-kick into the bottom corner.

15 minutes to play and the Posh grabbed an equaliser, Chiabi bringing down McGlinchey and Corbett dispatching the spot kick.

The spot-kick was quickly met with a red card as Peterborough were reduced to ten men. Late substitute Ntege was shown a second yellow following a late challenge.

For a third game in a row, the Lads left it late and grabbed a stoppage-time winner. Taylor once again involved with an in-swinging free kick and Fieldson rose above the rest to head home and seal the first points on the board in Group E.
