Preview: U23s take on West Brom

Sunderland Under-23s will look to make it back-to-back Midlands wins on Monday night, taking on West Bromwich Albion at the New Bucks Head Stadium, Telford (KO 7pm).

The young Lads took an impressive 3-1 win back from Wolverhampton Wanderers last Monday in a hard-fought display, Will Harris claiming a remarkable hat-trick.

The Premier League 2 Division 2 standings have become incredibly tight after six games for each side – bar Southampton at the foot of the table, the top 13 clubs are separated by just seven points – so whilst the Lads sit 12th on six points, victory on Monday could potentially see them rise as high as seventh.

West Brom will undoubtedly provide a stern test. Richard Stevens’ team are currently third in the division and have already netted 24 goals in all competitions so far this season – the free-scoring Baggies putting away 11 of those in their last two games. A 6-0 crushing of Southampton was swiftly followed by a 5-2 win at Norwich City in the space of four days.

There will be no stream available for the game, but live updates will be available on Twitter @SunderlandAFC.
