U23 Report: Young Lads claim victory at Reading

Reading 0-2 Sunderland U23

Sunderland Under-23s registered a third straight win on Friday afternoon, after beating Reading 2-0 in Berkshire.

Josh Hawkes continued his impressive scoring record with a second-half goal, seeing out the victory just before the hour mark.

Jeriel Dorsett's own goal on the stroke of half-time condemned the Royals to a deficit at the break.

Elliott Dickman's team - again featuring the likes of Dan Neil, Ollie Younger and Anthony Patterson - replicated the feat of the first team back home on Wearside to claim the three points, making it three successive Premier League 2 wins.

The result lifts the young Lads to eighth in Group 2 of the league, just a point outside the play-off places.

Attention for the U23s now turns to hosting West Bromwich Albion at the Academy of Light on April 12.

SUNDERLAND: Patterson; Wombwell, Younger, Almond, Taylor; Hackett, Wilding; Wearne, Neil, Hawkes; Harris.

Subs: Bond, Beaumont, Chapman, Gardiner.
