Loan watch: Mumba scores on home debut in South Shields win

Bali Mumba was on target for the second game running at the weekend as South Shields opened up a 12-point lead at the top of the BetVictor Northern Premier Division.

The Mariners defeated second place FC United of Manchester 5-3 in an enthralling encounter which was played in front of record-breaking numbers.

In total, 3,276 supporters crammed into Mariners Park to achieve the ground’s league attendance record and see Shields strengthen their grip on top spot.

A Jason Gilchrist brace and a Josh Gillies strike had put the Mariners in full control of the fixture at the break.

Tunde Owolabi pulled one back for the visitors early in the second period before Nathan Lowe struck to restore the hosts’ three-goal cushion.

The prolific Owolabi went on to complete his hat-trick for FC United, but Mumba netted on his home debut for Shields to complete an important victory in the race for promotion.
