New arrival: Kenton Richardson joins the club

Sunderland AFC are pleased to confirm the signing of former Hartlepool United defender Kenton Richardson.

The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal on Wearside following the expiration of his contract at the National League side.

Richardson, who spent time at Sunderland’s academy as a youngster, links up with Elliott Dickman’s Under-23 squad.

The right-back made his senior debut back in 2017 with Pools and went on to make 43 appearances, 11 of which were in Sky Bet League Two.

Following his switch to Wearside, Richardson said: “I’m delighted to sign for the club. It’s extra special for me because I used to have a season ticket here with my dad. I can’t wait to get going now and push on this season.”

Under-23 head coach Elliott Dickman added: “We’re very pleased with the signing of Kenton. He has a lot of experience at National League level despite his young age, so that’s going to add something to our group and really help the younger players. His attitude is very good and it’s down to him now to progress to the first team.”
