U23 match preview: "We must stick together" - Taylor

Sunderland under-23s centre-back Brandon Taylor believes the lads must stick together if they are to turn their fortunes around after a tough start to the season.

Elliot Dickman’s side travel to table-topping West Ham United on Sunday as they look to claim their first three points of the campaign at Dagenham and Redbridge’s, Victoria Road stadium.

The lads currently sit bottom of the Premier league 2, with one point from their opening six games, but Taylor thinks his team-mates have deserved better results at times from the performances they have put in.

“The start of the season obviously hasn’t gone well for us in terms of results, but we need to stick together as a team and work hard in training, “he said.

“We’ve conceded some soft goals. We need to take care at the back and possibly a more no-nonsense approach at times.

“Our squad is full of quality players and we’ve created chances in most of our games so it’s all about taking those chances now.

“I think in a lot of the games our performances have been good, but we haven’t got the results to match and hopefully we can change that on Sunday.”

The Hammers come into the contest in fine form, having not lost a Premier League 2 game all season and winning four on the spin in all competitions, most recently a thrilling 4-3 win at Sunderland’s north east rivals Middlesbrough.

“West Ham are a very good side as people can see by their league position but we need to focus on our game and do the basics right,” he continued.

“If we want to pick up a good result, we need to be at our best both individually and collectively.

“Hopefully, we can take the positives out of our previous games and put them together and get a positive result down there.”
