U18: Bryson targets points on the road

Sunderland under-18s are back in action on Friday as they travel to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

Paul Bryson’s side lost 1-0 at Everton in the Premier League Cup last time out in what was a huge turnaround considering their frustrating afternoon there less than two weeks before.

And Bryson believes the Toffees game is a good platform to build on, backing the lads to claim their first three points of the campaign.

“We’ve had two games on the bounce now when we’ve performed very well and stuck to our game plan,” he said.

“The only negative is that we haven’t got the results our performances have deserved recently.

“What matters most is what happens in both boxes, unfortunately we haven’t been able to take our chances, but the positive thing is that we are creating them.

“We fielded another young squad with Cole Kiernan the only second-year scholar so that will stand the younger lads in good stead in the future.”

The Baggies come into the game with three wins and three defeats from their opening six league fixtures, the most recent a 4-2 defeat to their rivals Wolves.

“West Brom will be another tough game for us, we have a game plan which I’m hoping the players can stick to,” he continued.

“It’s our last game before the international break so hopefully the lads can get a good result to kick start our season.

“The lads have been putting the work in on the training ground and they’ve given a great account of themselves in the past few games, I’m confident we can turn the positive performances into results soon enough.

“We’ve had a great weeks training and this game is a great chance from us to pick up our first three points.”
