Report: U23s lose out at West Brom

West Bromwich Albion U23 6-0 Sunderland U23

West Bromwich Albion ran out convincing winners at the expense of Sunderland in the Premier League 2 this evening at The Hawthorns.

Baggies loanee Chris Willock bagged a first-half brace in between Jamie Soule’s early opener and then Rayhaan Tulloch’s goal just after the half-hour mark.

Finn Azaz got himself on the scoresheet two minutes into the second period before Soule rounded off the scoring with his second minutes before the hour mark.

The Black Cats travelled to the Black Country in search of their first league win after they suffered defeat at home to Norwich City last time out.

Elliott Dickman, though, was without Lee Connelly – who scored last time out against the Canaries - and Jordan Hunter following their 28-day loan moves to South Shields.

New signing Cieran Dunne wasn’t named in the squad after previously featuring for Scottish club Falkirk.

Sunderland were punished for a slow start in the Black Country as West Brom’s Jamie Soule slotted home the opener inside three minutes.

Willock, who has joined Slaven Bilic’s men on loan from Portuguese club Benfica, then netted two goals in four minutes to put the Baggies in full control of the league fixture.

Tulloch completed a dominant first-half of scoring on 32 minutes – rounding off a damaging spell of three goals in nine minutes which took the game away from Sunderland.

West Brom continued in a similar deadly fashion in the second 45, swiftly adding to their advantage through Azaz on 47 minutes.

Soule notched his second and West Brom’s sixth 10 minutes later to move the Baggies up to third in the league standings.

Sunderland sit 10th with one point from their opening three games.
