U18 Report: Youth team defeated at Rovers

Blackburn Rovers U18 4-1 Sunderland U18

Sunderland suffered defeat on the road at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday afternoon in the Premier League.

Four goals from four different players got the hosts on their way to a comprehensive victory to move them up to seventh and leave the Black Cats at the foot of the table.

Flavian Enzo Boyomo's early header got Rovers off the mark as he latched onto a deep corner and did well to nod across goal and into the net.

Minutes later, the hosts doubled their advantage through Chanka Zimba with a sweet effort which curled beyond Adam Cameron.

Rovers remained on the front foot for much of the first 45, Sam Durrant was denied by Adam Cameron while at the other end Ryan Wombelle headed Tom Scothern’s corner wide.

Durrant and James Connolly then then missed further openings to put Rovers in full control of the fixture at the midway break.

However, the hosts swept through the gears again in the second 45 as they went on to double their advantage.

Luke Brennan fired into the bottom corner from just inside the box with 55 minutes played before he turned provided in the closing stages to set-up Connolly for a fourth.

Sunderland did pull one back in the 87th minute through Josh Baggs, who finished well from close-range.

Sunderland U18s: Cameron, Smith, Howard, Wombelle, Almond, Ord, Gooch, Kennedy (Dicicco, 66), Krakue, Miller.

Unused substitutes: Newman, Lilley.
