U18: Bryson previews Rovers trip

Sunderland under-18s are on the road once again today as they travel to Blackburn Rovers for a 12:30pm kick-off.

The young Black Cats endured a challenging afternoon on Saturday as they were downed 6-0 at highflying Everton.

However, today provides the youth team with the chance to issue a response against a Blackburn Rovers side, who only just edged past them at the Academy of Light 3-2 earlier this season.

Rovers head into today’s fixture on a good run of form, though, having taken 10 points from a possible 15 to consolidate their place in eighth in the Premier League table.

Speaking to safc.com ahead of today’s trip to Lancashire, under-18s boss Paul Bryson had this to say…

“It’s good for us to have this match coming around so quickly because of what happened on Saturday.

“We picked up some more injuries so it’s going to be a challenge once again, but I’ve spoken to the lads and they know Tuesday is a chance for a response.

“Saturday was a tough result to take, we’re stretched in terms of numbers and we’re having to play a lot of young players.

“The beauty of football, though, is you’ve got a chance to put it right in your next game so again, Tuesday is a chance for one or two of the younger ones to stand up, push their chests out and show what they can do.

“It’s tough but they will benefit from it next year when they are playing in this age bracket on a more weekly basis.”
