Sunderland youngster Benji Kimpioka has been nominated for September’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month.
The Swedish youth international made his league debut for the club in midweek, coming on as a late substitute for Jerome Sinclair in the Lads’ 2-2 draw with Peterborough United.
Kimpioka, who joined the club two years ago as a scholar, made the breakthrough to the senior set-up during pre-season when his marked his first appearance with a goal against Hartlepool United.
Appearances against Grimsby Town and St Mirren followed in Julu, before he made his competitive debut last month in the Lads’ Checkatrade Trophy tie with Stoke City under-21s at the Stadium of Light.
The first-year pro has been nominated for the monthly award alongside the likes of Rabbi Matondo, Joe Lewis and Oliver Skipp.
