U18s: Bryson ready for Youth Cup test at Everton

Paul Bryson will have to wait to find out whether Bali Mumba and Dan Neil will be available for this weekend’s FA Youth Cup tie at Everton.

Sunderland under-18s head to Goodison Park this Saturday, kick-off 2pm, with ambitions of reaching round four of the most prestigious youth cup competition.

After dispatching Halifax and Oldham Athletic in round one and two, the young Black Cats face fellow Premier League side Everton in their own back yard as they look to banish memories of last Saturday’s defeat to the Toffees at the Academy of Light.

“It will be interesting to see if a few players are back available for this weekend,” he said.

“I’d like to think we might get Bali (Mumba) and Dan (Neil) from the under-23s.

“One or two lads who have been injured will hopefully be back for the weekend, but we are still carrying one or two knocks so we didn’t risk them last weekend.

“There could be a few changes all in all but that is the nature of the beast.

“Last weekend against Everton was a chance for one or two players to show what they are about because they haven’t been getting much game time,” he continued.

“We’ve had a few injuries and that was their chance to put a marker down for this cup match, and fortunately some of them grasped that opportunity.”
