U18 Report: Kiernan double downs Baggies

 West Bromwich Albion U18 1-2 Sunderland U18

Cole Kiernan scored a brace as Sunderland under-18s collected their first win of the season on Friday.

Kiernan struck in either half between Aksum White’s goal on 48 minutes to give the Lads a precious three points on their travels.

Going into the fixture, Paul Bryson’s young guns sat bottom of the U18 Premier League with just a point from their opening three matches.

But on their return to the Black Country, following a goalless draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers two weeks ago, the Lads forced home their dominance as they left with their first win.

Kiernan opened the scoring on 24 minutes from the penalty spot to give Bryson’s side the lead, netting the Lads’ second goal of the season.

West Brom fought their way back and made the most of their dominance in the second 45 when White turned the ball home on 48 minutes.

The hosts continued to pepper Anthony Patterson’s goal, racking up no fewer than 18 strikes to Sunderland’s six.

But despite all that, Kiernan netted his second and the match winner on 62 minutes from Connor Slack’s assist to secure all three points.
