Loan watch: Ledger & Stryjek make debuts

Two of Sunderland’s young academy stars were in action over the weekend as they began life at their loan clubs.

Here’s how they got on…

Michael Ledger – Hartlepool United 3-1 Maidstone United

Michael Ledger made his Hartlepool United debut on Saturday, helping Craig Harrison’s side to record back-to-back victories.

The defender, who joined Pools on a season-long loan move last week, completed 90 minutes in his first match at Victoria Park.

Defender Keith Watson scored his first goal for Hartlepool, converting Lewis Hawkins' delivery after Maidstone scrambled to clear a corner.

Ledger then went close to doubling the hosts’ lead, heading just wide. But Scott Loach had to be alert at the other end as Maidstone livened up before the break.

Second-half strikes from Jonathan Franks and Connor Simpson made it comfortable for the hosts, before Johan ter Horst grabbed a late consolation for Maidstone.

Max Stryjek – Morecambe 1-2 Accrington Stanley

Max Stryjek had to come off just nine minutes into his Accrington Stanley debut on Saturday.

The Polish stopper moved to the Sky Bet League Two side on a season-long loan last week, but saw his first outing cut short due to injury.

Goals in either half from Billy Kee and Jordan Clark were enough to give Stanley the points, despite Kevin Ellison pulling one back for the Shrimps after home striker Vadaine Oliver was shown a straight red card with 33 minutes remaining.
