U23s: Dickman set for City battle

Elliott Dickman is primed and ready for a challenging encounter when Sunderland under-23s head to Manchester City on Saturday.

The young Black Cats resume their Premier League 2 campaign at the Etihad Stadium, kick-off 1pm, looking to build on the pleasing display against Annfield Plain on Wednesday evening.

Dickman’s side made light work of the tie to advance into round one of the Durham County Challenge Cup following their 11-0 win.

But eyes are now firmly fixed on the lads’ trip to Manchester tomorrow, and speaking to safc.com Dickman has admitted changes will be made once again – with Duncan Watmore set to clock his first minutes since December.

“Some of the lads hadn’t played too much prior to Wednesday so it was a good opportunity for them to play in a good competition like the Durham Challenge Cup,” he said.

“It is great for them to keep their fitness topped up.

“The other lads played at Chelsea will be maybe be looking to play at Manchester City on Saturday.

“We will train well and prepare for what will be another tough game in the Premier League 2 campaign that we are in.

“We are pleased with how we came through the Annfield Plain but we are ready for a challenging match against Man City in the league.”
