View from the opposition: Ferguson expected to make changes

Darren Ferguson is expected to make changes when Doncaster Rovers entertain Sunderland under-21s on Tuesday evening.

The Checkatrade Trophy clash at the Keepmoat Stadium will take place at 7.30pm, with the Black Cats aiming to bounce back following a 3-1 defeat at Scunthorpe United in their opening game.

Doncaster, meanwhile, opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw – and a 4-3 shootout win – at Grimsby Town.

And speaking ahead of the game, Ferguson revealed that changes are likely from the side who lost 2-0 at Bradford City on Saturday.

“There will be as many changes as I can possibly make in that game, it’s been a tough month with so many games.

“We’ve tried to manage them as best we can in the week between games, we’ve not done too much work on the grass and kept them as fresh as we can.

“It’s deja vu, really,” continued Ferguson as he reflected on what needs to improve following defeat at Bradford. “We are not getting the basics right in both boxes and we are not giving ourselves a chance at the moment.

“We have to start winning games. We know what’s costing us. At the end of the day, if we continue not winning games for the reasons that we are saying, personnel has to change, it’s as simple as that.

“At the moment, we are not doing the basics but I still have a team that has got belief – there is no doubt about that."
