Latest: Dickman provides Maja update

Elliott Dickman has provided an update on Josh Maja who was forced to withdraw from Sunderland under-23s’ squad at Everton.

Maja, 18, was due to start for the young Black Cats at Finch Farm this afternoon but was forced to withdraw after feeling his knee in the warm-up.

The young striker was set to clock his second round of minutes after making his return from injury on Monday night at Arsenal, but saw his afternoon cut sadly short when he felt his knee and Rees Greenwood replaced him in the warm-up.

Speaking to safc.com post-match, Dickman revealed the latest on Maja’s situation.

“Maja just felt his knee in the warm-up,” he said.

“It was a sensible decision, we didn’t want to take any risks and tomorrow he will be assessed by the medical team at the Academy of Light.

“He is just coming back from an injury so we didn’t want to take any chances, hopefully we should know more after the weekend.”
