U18s: Kimpioka treble impresses Atkinson

Mark Atkinson has labelled the recent form of Benji Kimpioka as ‘frightening’.

The Swedish starlet scored a hat-trick on Saturday as Sunderland under-18s picked up their third straight victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Kimpioka has enjoyed an emphatic run of form since the start of October, netting 12 times in his previous eight matches – including another hat-trick in the under-23s’ Durham County Challenge Cup last month against Hartlepool.

And while Atkinson admits there’s still plenty for Kimpioka to work on, he has told safc.com his current form has been very impressive.

“Over the last few games Benji’s performances have beem very encouraging,” he said.

“He is scoring goals and he looks to be a real handful for defences.

“Whether it is wide or through the middle teams just can’t seem to get to grips with him at the moment.

“He is strong and scoring a lot of goals right now – it is frightening really.”

“He has started to make good decisions over the last month or so but there is still room for improvement.

“We know that, he knows that.”
