Norwich City U23s: Middleton on Sunderland encounter

Glenn Middleton believes Norwich City under-23s have the potential to beat anyone on their day.

The Canaries welcome Elliott Dickman’s Sunderland to Carrow Road on Friday, with a place in this season’s Premier League International Cup final up for grabs.

Portuguese outfit FC Porto await the victors of the tie, and 17-year-old Norwich starlet Middleton is confident the hosts will advance having played a role in dismantling Dinamo Zagreb 6-0 in the quarter-finals.

With crushing wins over Valencia, Celtic and Aston Villa also helping them reach the last four, the Canaries are in red-hot form as anticipation continues to rise ahead of Friday's showdown.

Speaking to Norwich’s official club website, Scottish youngster Middleton shared his excitement, admitting the Canaries have the ability to beat any opponent on their day.

"It's the semi-final and you really want to be in the final. We're only one game away, so hopefully we can win and get there," he said.

"We've played them a bit in the past and we know that, on our day, we can go out and beat anyone.

"It might be a bit slow to start with as both teams try to break each other down.”

He continued: “At the same time, when you get that chance and you see your opportunity to go forward, you've got to take it."
