U23s: Dickman praises Nelson

Elliott Dickman has reserved a special mention to the hard work of Andrew Nelson following his brace on Friday night at Morpeth Town.

The striker saw his loan spell at Hartlepool United cut short last season due to a medial knee ligaments injury against Plymouth Argyle.

Nelson, 19, fought his way back to fitness to feature in the Lads’ showpiece Premier League International Cup final against FC Porto, before turning his attentions to the trials and tribulations of pre-season.

And as the solid fitness-fuelled examination continues ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, Dickman has paid homage to the work Nelson has put in prior to his match-winning double against Morpeth on Friday.

“It is nice to see Andrew get amongst the goals,” he said.

“He brings a lot to our game, he is physical and he works incredibly hard for the team defending from the front.

“I’m delighted to see him back fully fit and hopefully he can build on the hard work he is putting in.”

He continued: “As a team, we didn’t pass the ball as well as we could’ve done.

“We improved after the break and scored a good second goal.

“Hopefully we can continue to work hard over the course of the next few games.”
