Sunderland have been drawn in Northern Group H of this season’s Checkatrade Trophy.
The Black Cats will face Doncaster Rovers, Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United as they compete in the EFL competition for a second year running.
Last year saw the Lads advance to the knockout stages, picking up two wins and a draw, against Rochdale, Notts County and Hartlepool United, before they were defeated on penalties by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The first round of fixtures will take place on the week commencing 28 August.
