Premier League 2: Molyneux targets three points

Luke Molyneux is keen to get back to winning ways as Sunderland under-23s head to Derby County for the second time in six days.

Andy Welsh takes his young side to St George’s Park tonight as they resume their domestic campaign, fresh from securing their place in the knockout stages of the Premier League International Cup.

With the all-important point secured against the Rams last Thursday, which saw the Black Cats claw back a two-goal deficit in the dying embers, Molyneux believes his team-mates must replicate a similar dogged display if they are to return with three points this time round.

“It was a disappointing performance against Derby and in the changing room at half-time a lot was said,” he said.

“We showed a good reaction after the break and that was important as we came back into the game and earned a crucial point to secure our place in the next round.

“We know what to expect from them now, they are a physical side, but we now know how to deal with that so it’s just a case of making sure we do and stop them from playing.

“We ended 2016 on a good run of form and now we want to get back to winning ways, we have played well and now we need the points to show that.”
