U23s: Molyneux feeling positive ahead of European clash

Luke Molyneux has revealed spirits are high within Sunderland’s camp ahead of tonight’s European quarter-final clash.

The young Black Cats welcome Spanish outfit Athletic Club to the Stadium of Light, kick-off 7pm, with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs for the victor.

With impressive wins over Portuguese giants Benfica and Dutch side PSV Eindhoven under the development side’s belts, Elliott Dickman’s team head into tonight’s showdown on Wearside in fine fettle.

Undefeated after three group matches prior to tonight’s knockout round tie, Molyneux is confident his team-mates can hold their nerve as they continue to fine tune preparations ahead of kick-off

“The mood’s been good around the academy,” he said.

“It's been very competitive in training which is always good leading up to a big game.

“I think everyone is very positive going into the game tonight.

“The games so far have been difficult and we have come up against some tough opposition to make it to the stage we are at now.

“I don't feel like there's been many nerves from the lads because we know if we play our game like we know we can then we shouldn't have a problem getting through,” he continued.

“It would be a great achievement for the lads to get through and that’s something we are all working towards.”
